Songs from the Big Chair is the second studio album by English pop rock band Tears for Fears, released on 25 February 1985 by Phonogram Records. The album peaked at number two in the UK and at number one in the US and Canada, becoming a multi-platinum seller in all three countries. It also reached number one in Germany and the Netherlands and Top 10 positions in various other countries including Australia, Switzerland, New Zealand and Italy. It spawned the international hit singles Mothers Talk. Songs From The Big Chair - Tears For Fears. Songs From the Big Chairs two ballads, I Believe and Listen, also manage to avoid preciousness or campiness, impressive because theyre the two parts of the album that most expose Tears for Fears love of progressive art-rock. I Believe, a gentle track that sounds like it was recorded in a piano bar, greatly resembles Robert Wyatts quirky, curling songwriting. The Eighties were an age of big hair, bigger snare drums and massive hits. Music videos gave rise to a flashy new class of pop stars, and left behind the baby boomers that werent fit enough to strut it on MTV. Meanwhile, the hit-packed soundtracks of pop-savvy flicks like Flashdance and Purple Rain kept pace with the escalating box office grosses of the summer movie season. The title track from the Eurythmics second album was a classic instance of MTV helping send a song to the pop charts thanks to a striking video. The album, released in January 1983, had three unsuccessful singles before Sweet Dreams topped the Hot 100 in the late summer. Формируйте собственную коллекцию записей. The album also heralded a dramatic maturation in the band's music, away from the synth-pop brand with which it was unjustly seared following the debut, and towards a complex, enveloping pop sophistication. I hate that album cover. It suggests a sort of introspective quietude by two men with very dated hair who claim to have found the big truths to life from the condescending position of some metaphorical big chair. Of course, none of this aside from these guys having dated hair is correct at all. Songs From the Big Chair is a big and colorful album matched by big production and big hooks steeped in a sentiment of insecurity and fear. It would be a case where I would bring out the idiom Dont judge a bookalbum by its cover, but its clear that the advice has already been taken
