Opening with a lone guitar line that itself has all the momentum of entire genres crammed into a single set of chords, We Were Promised Jetpacks These Four Walls signifies a debut album that has the sort of peerlessness and potential to stand as a mainstay and luminary of indie music in the 21st century. Because the intensity of their rhythmic assault can become tiring, We Were Promised Jetpacks smartly break things up with songs such as the spacey, drumless instrumental interlude A Half-Built House and the hushed, finger-picked album closer An Almighty Thud though some of the more introspective tracks, like This Is My House, This Is My Home, are a little too soppily. Genres: Indie, Rock. These Four Walls is like a 50-minute, 11-song tour through the Scottish scenes past, present, and future, emphasizing how much of the countrys best pop music has been concerned with transporting listeners to specific places, so we can all linger there together. Album: These Four Walls 2009. These Four Walls sometimes lacks the gripping moments you'd expect of an album in this vein the melodies are less immediate and hooky, the choruses sometimes don't find themselves quickly enough and the lyricism, whilst decent, leaves something to be desired, but some of those attributes deserve praise and appreciation rather than disappointment. As Scotland's brilliant indie output reaches an all-time high, We Were Promised Jetpacks can easily count themselves among the reasons for such an opinion
